Hello and welcome!  What do you do when your toddler has a tantrum in public?  What do you do when people are staring or, worse yet, making judgmental comments or rolling their eyes?  It happens.  People do and say really dumb things from time to time.  BUT, you do not need to carry their actions and responses.
